Tuesday’s ad is for William Younger & Co. from — based on the bottle — the late 1800s or early pre-WWI 1900s. Climbing a pyramid would certainly give one a powerful thirst, so a worthy goal would be a bottle of beer waiting for you at the top. Of course, sitting in the Egyptian sun can’t necessary be a good thing.
Monday’s ad is for a Newark, New Jersey brewery, Feigenspan’s Brewing. The ad is most likely from the late 1800s (with one source claiming 1900), especially since the brewery itself was in business from 1875 to 1943. It’s a really beautiful illustration for the P.O.N. — “Pride of Newark.”
Friday’s ad is for Pabst Blue Ribbon, from 1954. It’s from their “What’ll You Have” series that started around the same time. In this case, the answer to that question is “fish.”
Thursday’s ad is for Ballantine Ale, called “Preparing the Thanksgiving Feast,” it’s from 1953. The ad features a great illustration showing a cut-out of the interior of a home getting ready to serve a traditional Thanksgiving dinner. It’s not exactly how my Thanksgiving looked, but it’s close. What I really love is the poem below the illustration.
Thanksgiving Day is here at last …
The family’s come from far and near.
The kitchen’s smelling mighty nice;
And Dad’s got Ballantine on ice.
That’s the beer we like best …
Deep-brewed to meet the “icebox test.”
We chill the bottles thoroughly …

Wednesday’s ad is Hamm’s, using the grammatically questionable — or Yoda friendly — dyslexic slogan “the beer refreshing.” But I love the floating parade of full beer glasses, like clouds, above the sky blue waters and forested land below.
Tuesday’s ad is Miller High Life, from the 1950s, I believe. With Thanksgiving this Thursday, a “Recipe for Pleasure” seems like something to look forward to, and the turkey in the upper right corner has me ready for the big meal.
Monday’s ad is for William Younger’s, from sometime in the 1970s, I believe. It was specifically for their Best Mild, with the slogan “Get Younger every day.”
Friday’s ad is for Tennent’s Pale Ale, who apparently are “The Aristocrat Of Beer.” Though the Wellpark Brewery is, or was, a Scottish brewery, the ad appears to be from Australia. Though from when I can’t be sure; perhaps the 1950s, although the bottle looks even older than that?
Thursday’s ad is another one for Rheingold Beer, this time announcing the new winner for 1960, Emily Banks. Isn’t she the very picture of a beer drinker circa 1960?
Wednesday’s ad is yet another one for Rheingold Beer, this time showing the finalists for Miss Rheingold for 1960, all in the powder blue dresses, matching shoes, white handbags and gloves. Which of these lovely young women will be the winner?
And here’s another ad with the same candidates, although in this one they’re not all in powder blue. Inexplicably, two of the Miss Rheingold candidates have changed into orange frocks. And this is before the New York Mets started.
