Wednesday’s ad is for “Brasserie du Cardinal,” from 1962. From the late 1800s until the 1960s, poster art really came into its own, and in Europe a lot of really cool posters, many of them for breweries, were produced. This poster was made for Brasserie du Cardinal, in Fribourg, Switzerland, which was founded in 1788 by François Piller. In 1991 (though one source says 1996), it was acquired by Feldschlösschen, which is owned by the Carlsberg Group. The poster was created by Swiss artist Pierre-Alexandre Junod.

Beer In Ads #3041: Brasserie de Delémont

July 1, 2019 By Jay Brooks

This image has an empty alt attribute; its file name is 3993724870_6a0224e391.jpg

Monday’s ad is for Brasserie de Delémont, from around 1900. From the late 1800s until the 1960s, poster art really came into its own, and in Europe a lot of really cool posters, many of them for breweries, were produced. This poster was made for Brasserie de Delémont, in Delémont, Switzerland, which was founded in 1900 by Albert Gürtler. In 1907 it became the Jura Brewery and in 1964 the Warteck Brewery. I’m not sure when the brewery closed but by 2008 they were growing commercial mushrooms in one of the brewery buildings, and the following year converted some of the buildings to a luxury hotel. In 2015, the Brasserie Blanche Pierre, or White Stone Brewery opened in Delémont, and I’m not sure who they’re related but it appears they are somehow affiliated with their predecessor. I’m not sure who the artist is who created the poster, but it was printed by Orell Füssli, in Zürich.

Beer In Ads #3040: Cardinal 1788

Sunday’s ad is for Brasserie du Cardinal, from 1969. This is a later poster created by husband and wife design team Gabriel and Anne Humair, and although it’s simpler than a lot of the earlier posters, it still seems very effective, to me, and merges the new with the old.
