Beer In Ads #2806: Swimmer’s Beer Break

October 27, 2018 By Jay Brooks

Saturday’s ad is for Genesee Beer, which was founded in Rochester, New York, originally along the Genesee River, but in 1878 they moved up into Rochester proper. Their Genesee Cream Ale, in the simple green can, was one of our go-to beers when I was in high school. Since 2009, the brewery has been part of North American Breweries. This ad, from the 1970s, part of a series of framed promotional posters, features a swimmer in a pool, who’s just come from air, and perhaps he has the bends from a very deep pool. Because upon pushing out of the water and into the air, he’s seeing a vision of glass of beer suspended on the water, floating above the pool. It’s a miracle.

Beer In Ads #2805: Genesee Pike

October 26, 2018 By Jay Brooks

Friday’s ad is for Genesee Beer, which was founded in Rochester, New York, originally along the Genesee River, but in 1878 they moved up into Rochester proper. Their Genesee Cream Ale, in the simple green can, was one of our go-to beers when I was in high school. Since 2009, the brewery has been part of North American Breweries. This ad, from the 1970s, part of a series of framed promotional posters by artist Sherm Pehrson, features a Pike (I think) fish swimming underwater below some smaller fish. It almost looks like he’s hunting them, but then fish behavior is not my strong suit.

This ad, from the 1970s, part of a series of framed promotional posters, features a farmer who’s taking a break from his work. It appears to be a hot day, and he’s sweating profusely, but luckily he’s got a glass of beer to quench his thirst.

Beer In Ads #2800: Nature’s Mellowness

October 21, 2018 By Jay Brooks

Sunday’s ad is for Genesee Beer, which was founded in Rochester, New York, originally along the Genesee River, but in 1878 they moved up into Rochester proper. Their Genesee Cream Ale, in the simple green can, was one of our go-to beers when I was in high school. Since 2009, the brewery has been part of North American Breweries. This ad, from the 1960s, features a generic menu cover that Genesee would offer as a promotion to restaurants or bars that served food so that the businesses could save money and the brewery could advertise their beer. This one, I think, is better looking than a lot of these I’ve seen, with the lovely fields and marching, or dancing, glasses of beer.

Saturday’s ad is for Genesee Beer, which was founded in Rochester, New York, originally along the Genesee River, but in 1878 they moved up into Rochester proper. This ad, from the 1970s, features poster art by an artist who signs only Cariguo, titled “Alpha Lamda Epsilon Happy Hour.” There’s also a banner that reads “Love That Genny Cream,” and everyone at the Frat party seems to be doing just that.

Beer In Ads #2798: The Genny Cream Jam Band

October 19, 2018 By Jay Brooks

Friday’s ad is for Genesee Beer, which was founded in Rochester, New York, originally along the Genesee River, but in 1878 they moved up into Rochester proper. Their Genesee Cream Ale, in the simple green can, was one of our go-to beers when I was in high school. Since 2009, the brewery has been part of North American Breweries. This ad, from the 1970s, features poster art by an artist who signs only Cariguo, titled “The Genny Cream Jam Band.” Frankly, it looks a lot like Jack Davis, who did a lot of cartoon movies posters and worked for Mad Magazine. They look like a country band, and I love the tall Genny Cream Ale speakers on stage, and everyone seems to be having a good time.

Beer In Ads #2797: Taste Invaders II

October 18, 2018 By Jay Brooks

Thursday’s ad is for Genesee Beer, which was founded in Rochester, New York, originally along the Genesee River, but in 1878 they moved up into Rochester proper. Their Genesee Cream Ale, in the simple green can, was one of our go-to beers when I was in high school. Since 2009, the brewery has been part of North American Breweries. This ad, from 1979, features a sci-fi theme, probably playing on the popularity of Star Wars, which was huge at that time. One spaceship, with a can of Genesee Cream Ale on it, along with two people looking very much like Luke and Leia from one of the original posters for Star Wars. I love that the beer can is his lightsaber.
