Beer In Ads #2083: It’s Pick-A-Pair Time!

November 3, 2016 By Jay Brooks

Thursday’s ad is for Budweiser, from 1964. In this ad, it’s election time once again and time to Pick-A-Pair, whether it be six-packs or a new leader. The ad even suggests we should “be sure to vote twice.” Which pair will you pick? With only five days to go until “E-Day,” and one of the most important ones in my lifetime, please make sure you to do exercise your right and make your vote count. But only once.

Beer In Ads #2082: Budweiser Salutes The Chicago Cubs

November 2, 2016 By Jay Brooks

Wednesday’s ad is for Budweiser, from 1984. In this ad, a poster really, it shows Wrigley Field and congratulates the Chicago Cubs for being the National League Eastern Division Champs. Tonight the Cubs won their first World Series in a very long time. When I couldn’t keep my eyes open any longer, they were up 4-1, and when I work up this morning in Belgium, it looks like I missed a barnburner of a finish.

Beer In Ads #2081: No Room For Compromise

November 1, 2016 By Jay Brooks

Tuesday’s ad is for Budweiser, from 1984. In this ad, a baseball player is arguing with the umpire, usually a foolish exercise in futility. With the Cubs big win tonight, perhaps the next game will be full of such arguments. Certainly it should be a very exciting game.

Beer In Ads #2080: Scarecrow Beer Drinker

October 31, 2016 By Jay Brooks

Monday’s ad is for Schlitz, from the 1950s. In this ad, a man dressed as the Scarecrow for Halloween appears to be ignoring all of the other guests at the party in favor of concentrating on the beer. I think he’s trying to go home with the beer tonight.

Beer In Ads #2079: This Is My Favorite Haunt!

October 30, 2016 By Jay Brooks

Sunday’s ad is for Schlitz, from 1952. In this ad, two ghosts are checking out their favorite haunts. Which, of course, is a bar. How could anyone’s favorite haunt not be a bar? Happy almost Halloween.

Beer In Ads #2078: The Pumpkin Centerpiece

October 29, 2016 By Jay Brooks

Saturday’s ad is for Schlitz, from 1953. In this ad, dinner is being served, and it’s obvious what time of the year it is given the harvest centerpiece on the table that includes a jack-o-lantern pumpkin. But what I love is that somewhat scary expression on the woman’s face delivering a tray of beer bottles to the table. Maybe I”m reading too much into it, but her face seems to be saying “look, I’ve been cooking all day long, maybe you could at least get off your ass and serve the beer, dear.”

Beer In Ads #2077: Schlitzquerade Party

October 28, 2016 By Jay Brooks

Friday’s ad is for Schlitz, from 1957. In this ad, part of their Schlitzerland series, there’s a costume party going on, where Schlitz is being served and then people start singing. Coincidence? I don’t think so. Personally, my favorite costume is the accordion player.

Beer In Ads #2076: America Votes For No Bitterness

October 27, 2016 By Jay Brooks

Thursday’s ad is for Schlitz, from the 1943. In this ad, showing four very diverse citizens at the ballot box, claims “America Votes For No Bitterness.” Maybe in 1943, but not in 2016, where bitterness reigns supreme, both in our IPAs and also in our elections. I actually had to unfriend someone on Facebook today for the first time ever for going full wacko on me over politics. There’s only a dozen days until the election, and I for one can’t wait until it’s all over.

Beer In Ads #2075: The Flavor That Scores

October 26, 2016 By Jay Brooks

Wednesday’s ad is for Schlitz, from the 1940s. In this ad, entitled “The Flavor That Scores,” an ump appears to be calling a player safe at home. But it’s hard to tell from that angle, and the amount of the scene we’re being shown. I guess we’ll have to take his word for it, and drink a beer.

Beer In Ads #2074: What Do You Know About Voting?

October 25, 2016 By Jay Brooks

Tuesday’s ad is for Schlitz, from 1940. In this ad, entitled “What Do You Know About Voting?,” in which how different people experience their right to vote, are explained. There are two weeks to go until arguably the most important election in my lifetime. So I thought it might be important to know everything about it. Luckily, Schlitz has all the answers.
