Saturday’s ad is for löscht wunderbar den Durst, or “Beer Wonderfully Quenches the Thirst,” from 1954. From the late 1800s until the 1960s, poster art really came into its own, and in Europe a lot of really cool posters, many of them for breweries, were produced. This is part of a series of posters promoting beer by the German Brewers Association in the mid-20th century. It was created by German artist Thomas Abeking.

Thursday’s ad is for Ein Bier Mit Dir, or “A Beer With You,” from 1959. From the late 1800s until the 1960s, poster art really came into its own, and in Europe a lot of really cool posters, many of them for breweries, were produced. This is another in a series of posters promoting beer by the Swiss Breweries’ Association that began in the 1950s. It was created by Swiss artist and photographer Donald Brun.

Wednesday’s ad is for schafft Geselligkeit, or “Beer creates Sociability,” from 1950. From the late 1800s until the 1960s, poster art really came into its own, and in Europe a lot of really cool posters, many of them for breweries, were produced. This is, I believe, part of a series of posters promoting beer by the German Brewers Association in the mid-20th century. It was created by German artist Thomas Abeking.

This is another poster I’m not exactly sure who or what it was made for, but it was created by Swiss artist Fritz Wüthrich.

Sunday’s ad is for Bier, from 1962. From the late 1800s until the 1960s, poster art really came into its own, and in Europe a lot of really cool posters, many of them for breweries, were produced. I’m not exactly sure who or what this poster was created for. It was produced by the well-known German artist Heinz Fehling.

While it doesn’t help much, there are versions that include the text “Durst wird durch Bier erst schön” which Google translates as “Thirst becomes beautiful through beer.” And while a nice sentiment, it really doesn’t help solve the mystery of this poster’s purpose.

Friday’s ad is for Oranjeboom, from 1945. From the late 1800s until the 1950s, poster art really came into its own, and in Europe a lot of really cool posters, many of them for breweries, were produced. This poster is for Oranjeboom. It was founded in Rotterdam, in The Netherlands, in 1690, but moved to Breda in 1990. Five years later they sold to InterBrew (now ABI) who closed the brewery in 2004. The text translates as “Beers to Celebrate,” and gove that the war in Europe had just ended, I have a pretty good idea what they were so happy about. Unfortunately, I don’t know who the artist was who created this.
