Naked Beer Cans

September 26, 2012 By Jay Brooks

nude
This is an interesting design, generic beer cans, made to look as if they were essentially clear and showing the contents inside, albeit in an idealized way. They were created by Timur Salikhov, a designer from St. Petersburg, Russia.

naked-beer-3

He starts with the premise “Why hide what good beer looks like?”

naked-beer-2

And then he designed the cans to appear as if they were a freshly poured glass of beer. It’s fun concept and apparently he’d like to sell the idea to a brewery. I think the only unfortunate aspect of his design is that without additional branding on the package, it may look too generic. BUt it sure looks like a beer I’d like to open.

Beer In Ads #701: Wonderful Beer

September 25, 2012 By Jay Brooks

Tuesday’s ad is again for Drewery’s, and I believe it’s probably a still from an animated television commercial. It has the stylized look of the animation from that period of time. It must have been a fun commercial.

Working For A Beer

September 25, 2012 By Jay Brooks

money
How long do you think you have to work before you can have a beer? I don’t mean how long before you think it’s time to take a break and enjoy a pint. No, I mean how long do you think you have to work in order to earn enough money to buy yourself a beer?

In the Economist’s Daily Chart, Thirsty Work, they detail the efforts of analysts at the Swiss Bank UBS to figure out how long the average German worker would have to work in order to buy him- or herself a half-litre of beer at Oktoberfest. They discovered that it would take “just under seven minutes of work.” But it’s not the same in every nation, as the chart below details. The avergae appears to be about 20 minutes of work for a beer, which doesn’t seem too bad. The worst place was India, where you’d have to work “nearly an hour” to make enough for a beer. The United States, I’m happy to say, is at the bottom, which is a good thing. It only takes us about 5 minutes to earn enough for a beer. Hell, I think I earned two beers just writing this post.

Beer In Ads #700: Reinheitsgebot Replica

September 24, 2012 By Jay Brooks

Monday’s ad is the 700th ad in this series! So I wanted to make it something special. This is a replica poster of the original 1516 Reinheitsgebot, one of history’s best marketing gimmicks. I’m not sure who it was created to promote, but it’s still a pretty cool piece of breweriana. Happy 700th.

How To Win The Battle For The Last Beer

September 24, 2012 By Jay Brooks

tiger-new
San Diego Brewing tweeted this cool ad for Tiger Beer, which they called a “funny commercial for crappy beer.” I don’t think of Tiger as a great beer certainly, more a middle-of-the-road industrial lager. But I may be biased since they had the good sense to make custom View-Master reels a few years ago. At any rate, the commercial is pretty clever, even if it may not make you rush out for some of the beer.

Oktoberfest 2012 Begins Today

September 22, 2012 By Jay Brooks

oktoberfest-band
Today at noon the mayor of Munich tapped the ceremonial keg to kick off Oktoberfest. The My Destination travel blog has created an interesting infographic (I confess I love these type of things) with the statistics of just how much food and drink was consumed at last year’s folk festival.

Beer In Ads #699: Still More Flavor, Less Filling, More Fun!

September 21, 2012 By Jay Brooks

Friday’s ad is again from perhaps the 1950s, a third one for the Indiana brewery Drewerys. It uses the slogan “more flavor, less filling, more fun!” THis one has a third different model making faces to express each idea. Hilarious, that’s Big D. Yet again.
