Beer In Ads #1096: Schaefer All Around

February 8, 2014 By Jay Brooks

Saturday’s ad is for Schaefer, from 1959. Schaefer did a number of ads with the round theme, often showing the top of a beer can, emphasizing the round shape of them. This one shows a round plate full of snacks, including some not-terribly-appetizing potato chips (they’ve got brown edges indicating they were burned or the oil used was old).

Friday’s ad is for Ballantine Ale, from 1959. Showing a winter scene, with a giant glass of Ballantine Light Lager Beer showing some exquisite lace. And I guess it must be pretty cold, too.

Today’s beer video is an episode of Food Tech, which used to be aired on the History Channel, focusing on Ballpark food and beverages, specially beer. Trouble Brewing: Changes In FDA Rules For Spent Grain

February 6, 2014 By Jay Brooks

barley
There was an interesting article recently on Craft Beer Business detailing how changes to the FDA regulations regarding spent grain might effect breweries. Under a proposed new “definition, craft breweries would be labeled animal feed manufacturers and be regulated as such by the FDA.” Given that most breweries have to find something to do with their spent grain, whether selling it or donating it, if the proposed rules take effect, it will undoubtedly alter the way breweries dispose of their grain. Check out the article, FDA rule regulates spent grain sold as animal feed, to see the rule changes.
