Beer In Ads #741: Recipe For Pleasure

November 20, 2012 By Jay Brooks

Tuesday’s ad is Miller High Life, from the 1950s, I believe. With Thanksgiving this Thursday, a “Recipe for Pleasure” seems like something to look forward to, and the turkey in the upper right corner has me ready for the big meal.

Beer In Ads #740: Get Younger Every Day

November 19, 2012 By Jay Brooks

Monday’s ad is for William Younger’s, from sometime in the 1970s, I believe. It was specifically for their Best Mild, with the slogan “Get Younger every day.”

Beer Birthday: Mark Silva

November 19, 2012 By Jay Brooks

real-beer
Today is the 51st birthday of Mark Silva, co-founder of RealBeer.com, one of the first beer portals to establish a presence on the internet. I’ve known Mark for a lot of years in a variety of enterprises. These days, I usually run into Silva at beer events, though sadly not as often as I used to. Join me in wishing Mark a very Happy birthday.

One of my favorite photos of Don Younger also features Mark at the Falling Rock in Denver during GABF.

Beer In Ads #739: The Aristocrat Of Beer

November 16, 2012 By Jay Brooks

Friday’s ad is for Tennent’s Pale Ale, who apparently are “The Aristocrat Of Beer.” Though the Wellpark Brewery is, or was, a Scottish brewery, the ad appears to be from Australia. Though from when I can’t be sure; perhaps the 1950s, although the bottle looks even older than that?

Bagby Signs Lease On New Brewery Location

November 15, 2012 By Jay Brooks

Bagby
This is excellent news. Jeff Bagby, who won a boatload of awards while brewmaster at Pizza Port Carlsbad and Director of Brewery Operations for the entire chain, has been searching for the ideal location to open his own brewery, to be called Bagby Beer Co. He announced earlier today that he and his wife, and business partner, Dande Bagby, have signed a lease for the property at 601 S. Coast Highway in Oceanside, California. The 11,000 square foot space used to be “the historical Continental Motors and BMW Oceanside,” and consists of three separate buildings and a small courtyard, which they hope to turn into an outdoor beer garden. They anticipate starting construction on the brewery and restaurant in early 2013. There’s still a lot of work to do before they’re up and running, and Jeff is brewing beer again, but at least they’re over the first hurdle. Join me in congratulating Jeff and Dande on finding a location for their brewery.

Beer In Ads #738: The 1960 Miss Rheingold

November 15, 2012 By Jay Brooks

Thursday’s ad is another one for Rheingold Beer, this time announcing the new winner for 1960, Emily Banks. Isn’t she the very picture of a beer drinker circa 1960?

Beer In Ads #737: Beer & Powder Blue Dresses

November 14, 2012 By Jay Brooks

Wednesday’s ad is yet another one for Rheingold Beer, this time showing the finalists for Miss Rheingold for 1960, all in the powder blue dresses, matching shoes, white handbags and gloves. Which of these lovely young women will be the winner?

Rheingold-1960-candidates

And here’s another ad with the same candidates, although in this one they’re not all in powder blue. Inexplicably, two of the Miss Rheingold candidates have changed into orange frocks. And this is before the New York Mets started.
