Given the controversy — people seemed to love it or hate it — over Greg Koch’s original I Am A Craft Brewer video, and the many similar videos that followed, I half expected this parody of I Am A Craft Brewer to be a dig at it, but it’s not at all. It’s more of a goofy homage to it, and at times it’s laugh-out-loud funny. Enjoy.
Tailgating For The Flames: Black Diamond’s TV Commercial
If you haven’t watched much sports on television lately perhaps you missed the new cable television commercial by the Bay Area’s own Black Diamond Brewing of Concord. Happily, it’s now up on YouTube. Go Flames!
The World’s Strongest & Strangest Beers
Here’s an interesting infographic created by, of all people, Term Life Insurance, showing The World’s Strongest & Strangest Beers.
Here’s a close-up of the strongest beers.

Beer In Ads #210: The Taste Buds
Wednesday’s ad is for Budweiser, from 1979. The “Taste Buds” ad campaign was one of the goofiest ones they ever did. It didn’t last very long, but it sticks out in my memory, for whatever that’s worth. This is a print ad for the campaign, but it was really the television ads where its complete goofiness came out. So below this I’ve included two of those.

Onion Spoof: Americans Get Majority of Exercise While Drunk
For something a little lighter than recent topics, here’s a funny video from The Onion, spoofing scientific studies about drinking, Americans Get Majority of Exercise While Drunk. It begins. “Over 75% of an average American’s exercise now comes from drunkenly dancing, stealing street signs, and carrying home passed-out friends.” It looks like embedding isn’t working, so go view at The Onion.
Craft Beer’s 10 Commandments
Jim, the beer-half of the Beer & Whiskey Brothers blog with his brother Don, has a fun list they created; The Ten Commandments of Craft Beer. They’re not so much “commandments” in the sense that you’re being commanded, but it’s a pretty good list of things you can do to get the most out of enjoying craft beer. What would you add? Is there anything you disagree with?
Open Up With The 1973 Budweiser Malt Liquor Express
Check out this unintentionally hilarious video made for the Anheuser-Busch sales force and distributors in 1973, created to showcase how they were going to “open up” the market for malt liquor with Budweiser Malt Liquor.
The Brewer’s Feud: 21A Vs. Iron Hill
One really fun event I attended during GABF this year, was the Brewer’s Feud, a beer-twisted version of the game show, the Family Feud, created by the Brewing Network. Instead of blood relatives, each side was made up of families of breweries. The first contest was east vs. west: 21st Amendment Brewery of San Francisco against the Iron Hill Brewpubs of Delaware, Pennsylvania and New Jersey. It’s only about half an hour long, but great fun throughout. I won’t give away who wins, you’ll have to watch it to find out. Enjoy.

Awesomely Geeky Science Beers From Wired
Wired Magazine has a funny, and interesting, post about seven science-influenced craft beers, by Betsy Mason, who earlier had a very funny post, proving Why Geologists Love Beer. The seven beers are listed below. Give it a read.

- Pangaea Ale (Dogfish Head)
- Biere de Mars (New Belgium Brewing)
- Pliny the Elder (Russian River Brewing)
- Evolution Amber Ale (Wasatch Brewing)

- Gigabit IPA (Hopworks Urban Brewery)
Save A Slug, Have A Beer
Add one more reason to drink beer, especially if you’re a nature lover. According to the e-mail I got from Fustigato — I believe from Italy — millions of slugs are killed each year using beer. To save the slugs, they’re suggesting you have a beer, and in fact all the beer in the world. I think the students and alumni of the University of Santa Cruz will get behind this campaign. So remember, you’re not just quenching your thirst when you drink a beer, you’re also saving a slug.
Below is the video.
