Beer In Ads #593: The Beer With The High I.Q. In The Moon

April 25, 2012 By Jay Brooks

Wednesday’s ad is yet another one for Acme Beer, another in the series of “High I.Q. (It Quenches) ads. This one was done by famed pin-up artist George Petty, who did several ads for Acme. In contrast to yesterday’s matronly ad, this one shows an attractive woman, dressed provocatively, resting in the crescent moon high above the world with a glass of beer in her hand. I can’t imagine Miller was very happy about this ad. But I like it just fine, but that’s probably because of my low I.Q.

Beer In Ads #592: The Beer With The High I.Q.

April 24, 2012 By Jay Brooks

Tuesday’s ad is another one for Acme Beer, this one from 1946. Showing a high falootin’ dame wearing a mink coat and holding a beer in her gloved hand, I guess that’s Acme’s way of making the beer appear smarter? But apparently I.Q. stands for “It Quenches.”

Beer In Ads #591: I Agree …

April 23, 2012 By Jay Brooks

Monday’s ad is for Acme Beer from 1947. The ad features local San Francisco celebrity John Tyers, a star of the San Francisco Civic Light Opera Company. He agrees, “it’s the finest tasting Acme beer ever brewed,” especially with the “tangy flavor.”

MillerCoors Looking To Hire Bay Area Beer Ambassador

April 23, 2012 By Jay Brooks

tenth-blake
Thanks to an alert reader, Susan G., who noticed this video about a Monster.com job posting for an “Import & Craft Trade Brewer” position in the Bay Area advertised by MillerCoors. Actually, the person hired will work for 10th & Blake, which is their craft and import division. The company is looking for “a beer ambassador and homebrewing coach in the western U.S. [to] Teach sales teams and consult on new beer recipes.” They want someone who “knows all things beer.”

Guinness Ad #116: Welcome In The Home

April 21, 2012 By Jay Brooks

guinness-toucan
Our 116th Guinness ad shows the intrepid zookeeper in his home surrounded by eight of his zoo animals, as if they live there when the zoo is closed. The seal is serving the zookeeper a Guinness on a tray as he relaxes on a comfy chair, legs up on a turtle. The tagline, “Guinness is welcome in the home” must have been advertising bottled product for sale.

Beer In Ads #590: Lucky In Alaska

April 20, 2012 By Jay Brooks

Friday’s ad is the fourth, and final, in our series of ads for Lucky Lager, brewed in both San Francisco and Los Angeles, California. This ad shows the “age-dated beer” being enjoyed in Alaska. You can tell because he’s wearing a parka and there’s a toem pole in the background. Actually, it says so on the copy, it could have been anywhere in the west, really.

Beer In Ads #589: Lucky Lumberjack

April 19, 2012 By Jay Brooks

Thursday’s ad is the third in our series of ads for Lucky Lager, brewed in both San Francisco and Los Angeles, California. This ad shows the “age-dated beer” being enjoyed in a wooded setting by someone dressed as a lumberjack, as far as I can tell. “He cuts down trees, he eats his lunch, he goes to the lavatory ….”

Beer In Ads #588: Lucky On The Hunt

April 18, 2012 By Jay Brooks

Wednesday’s ad is the second in our series of ads for Lucky Lager, brewed in both San Francisco and Los Angeles, California. This ad shows the “age-dated beer” being enjoyed on what I’m guessing is a hunting trip in the woods.
